Coupling a variable from an edge to a domain (3D)

Hello,

I am having difficulty in understanding the way that a variable is mapped from an edge to a subdomain in COMSOL 4.2. I did not have any problem in version 3.5a as in that version I was able to define the destination subdomain. The way that it was working in version 3.5a was that I selected an edge as the source an defined an equation to map it to the intermediate surface. Then I selected a subdomain as the destination and another set of equations to map it to the same intermediate surface. The problem that I am having with version 4.2 is that I am not able to define the destination subdomain. It only allows me to define the equations to map the destionation to the intermediate surface. How does it know which subdomains are going to get mapped using the destination equations?
