Drug therapy of the posterior part of an eye is very challenging. Yet, in USA alone, there are almost 2 million people affected by age related macular degeneration. When designing a strategy for controlled-release drug delivery, it is important to take into account of physiology, absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion properties of a drug. Therefore, the aims of this study are: 1) to build a three dimensional pharmacokinetic model of a human eye; 2) to increase the number of known pharmacokinetic parameters in an eye by either experiments in vitro, or fitting the values obtained from the model to experimental ones; 3) to verify simulations with in-vivo imaging; 4) to study ocular iontophoresis.
