Lombardi Surface Mobility

Surface acoustic phonons and surface roughness have an important effect on the carrier mobility, especially in the thin inversion layer under the gate in MOSFETs. The Lombardi surface mobility model adds surface scattering resulting from these effects to an existing mobility model using Matthiessen’s rule. This model demonstrates how to use the Lombardi surface mobility model for the electron ...

Designing a Waveguide Diplexer for the 5G Mobile Network

A diplexer is a device that combines or splits signals into two different frequency bands, widely used in mobile communication systems. This model simulates splitting properties using a simplified 2D geometry. The computed S-parameters and electric fields at the lower and upper bands will show the diplexer characteristics in the Ka-band.

Under-Deposit Corrosion

In this model, the effect of corrosion product on galvanic corrosion between a magnesium alloy (AE44) and mild steel in contact with brine solution is presented, wherein deformed boundaries due to both deposition of corrosion product as well as dissolution of magnesium are considered. The transport of Mg2+ ions generated at the magnesium surface and OH- ions generated at the mild steel surface ...

Electrical Heating in a Busbar

This tutorial model of the Joule heating effect in a busbar demonstrates how to synchronize an assembly between Solid Edge and COMSOL, how to modify the geometry from COMSOL, and how to run a geometric parametric sweep.

Vdara® Caustic Surface

When the Vdara hotel first opened in Las Vegas, visitors relaxing by the pool would experience intense periods of heat at certain times of the day, at certain times of the year. This intense heat was caused by the reflection of solar radiation from the curved, reflective surface on the South-facing side of the hotel. This model shows how a caustic surface is generated in the pool area around the ...

Gravitational Lensing

This model demonstrates how the sun causes 1.75 arcseconds of deflection for rays grazing the sun's surface as observed from the earth. Einstein predicted this value after refining his theory of relativity during World War I.

Prestress of Main Bearing Cap Bolts

This example shows how to model prestressed bolts. The bolt geometry is taken from the Part Libraries. For comparison, one of the bolts is modeled using a thread contact formulation, whereas the other bolt is connected to the bolt hole by a pure continuity condition. The reduced stiffness in the threaded part of the bolt is taken into account by a reduction of the stiffness of the material.

Duct with Right Angled Bend

In this tutorial the acoustic behavior of a duct or waveguide with a right angled bend is analyzed. The model uses port boundary conditions at the inlet and outlet. The ports can capture and treat non-plane propagating modes in waveguides, extending the analysis above the first cutoff frequency. The transmission loss and the scattering coefficients of the system are determined.

Exporting and Importing a Topology Optimized Hook

The model studies optimal material distribution in a hook, which is symmetric about the z plane and consists of a linear elastic material, structural steel. It is subjected to two distributed edge load cases: One at the tip of the hook and one along its lower inner curve. The geometry is imported as a geometry sequence.

Primary Creep Under Nonconstant Load

In this model example, you will study the creep behavior of material under non-constant loading. You will model the primary creep using a Norton-Bailey law and study the difference between the time hardening and the strain hardening methods available in COMSOL Multiphysics. The model is taken from NAFEMS Understanding Non-Linear Finite Analysis Through Illustrative Benchmarks. The load ...
