Concrete Beam with Reinforcement Bars

Concrete structures almost always contain reinforcements in the shape of steel bars ("rebars"). In COMSOL, rebars can be modeled either individually by adding a Truss interface to the Solid interface used for the concrete or using the Fiber subfeature to model their global effect. In case the Truss interface is used the solid mesh for the concrete and the rebar mesh can be independent, because the displacements are mapped from within the solids onto the rebar at a certain position. The beam is analyzed with several material models, including the Ottosen concrete model and the Mazars damage model.
