This hotfix is cumulative and includes all previous corrections. The fix addresses the following:

COMSOL Multiphysics

It is now possible to run all solvers on the command line in the COMSOL Script Desktop also when working on a computer with several processors.

Piecewise general function evaluations now work also when running COMSOL in parallel in a multiprocessor environment. This fix also includes some minor thread-safety improvements.

You can now open all models using the PDE General Form application mode with weak constraints.

Chemical Engineering Module

The boundary variable Tplus is now available in the Convection and Conduction application mode when using the k-ω turbulence model. This variable is required to properly set up the wall boundary condition when using the predefined multiphysics coupling that you select by choosing Flow with Variable Density>Non-Isothermal Flow>k-ω Turbulence Model

Heat Transfer Module

Radiation view factor computations now work also when running COMSOL in parallel in a multiprocessor environment. This fix also includes minor thread-safety improvements.

RF Module

It is now always possible to open models built using the In-Plane Waves or Electromagnetic Waves application modes with far-field variables.

Reaction Engineering Lab

When performing parameter estimation with multiple data sets in COMSOL Reaction Engineering Lab, you can now use data sets with different number of data points.

Installation

Before you begin, make sure that you run COMSOL version 3.4.0.248. This is the only version that can be updated with this fix. On the Help menu, click "About COMSOL Multiphysics" to check your version.

PC Installation Instructions

Download the self-extracting executable file comsol34_hotfix_win32.exe or comsol34_hotfix_win64.exe depending on if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows system. Close all instances of COMSOL and MATLAB programs before you begin the installation process.

Run the executable and unpack the files to your COMSOL installation directory, for example, C:\COMSOL34. This is the directory where the file licenseinfo.ini and the directories java and doc are located.

UNIX and Linux Installation Instructions

Download the tar file comsol34_hotfix_xxx.tar where the xxx part depends on your platform. Change to the COMSOL installation directory, for example, /usr/local/comsol34 (type cd /usr/local/comsol34). Type

tar xf [download file path]/comsol34_hotfix_xxx.tar

This will untar a script (comsolupdate) and a JAR-file (comsolupdate.jar) to your COMSOL installation directory. To apply the patch run

./comsolupdate

from your COMSOL installation directory. This will unpack files from the JAR-file and replace the corresponding files in your COMSOL 3.4 installation.

Mac OS X Installation Instructions

Mount the downloaded disk image by double-clicking it. Run the AppleScript "COMSOL 3.4 Hotfix". It will ask you to locate your COMSOL installation folder, for example, "Macintosh HD:Applications:COMSOL34". This is the folder where the file licenseinfo.ini and the directories java and doc are located.

Check the Installation

Do the following to check that the installation is complete:

  1. Start COMSOL Multiphysics.
  2. On the Help menu, click About COMSOL Multiphysics.
  3. Check that the version number is 3.4.0.250 (If the installation did not finish correctly, the version number is 3.4.0.248).
