The major impediment to detection and characterization of low dielectric contrast nonmetallic buried in soil is the distorting and masking effects of clutter from rough ground surfaces and soil volumetric inhomogeneities.
In this work, a 2D FDFD code developed specifically for the buried mine problem will be compared to a commercial FEM code, COMSOL Multiphysics.
