Day 1: The basic techniques
Day 2: Advanced techniques, tips & tricks
This course combines the introductory and advanced COMSOL courses into a 2-day intensive training. We start at an introductory level, then lead you through topics needed in all analyses, and then into advanced topics using lecture, worked examples and workshop problems.
The goal is to immerse you in all of the main aspects of using COMSOL so that you can feel comfortable with most of the commands accessible from the user interface and confident that you can be productive solving simulation problems with COMSOL.
Day 1, 9:00 - 16:00
By using a variety of examples each step in the modeling process in COMSOL is explained. Next, you will be asked to use this knowledge in hands-on exercises. In particular the following will be considered:
- Geometry modeling in 2D and 3D
- Using expressions
- Controlling mesh generation
- Standard and not-standard boundary conditions
- Analysis type and solver choices
- Post-processing options
- Couplings between physics
- The mathmatical background, PDE’s (only for those interested)
Day 2, 9:00 - 16:00
On this second day your working knowledge of COMSOL will be expanded so that you may get the most out of each modeling step.
- Solvers available and options
- Advanced geometry modeling
- Geometry import from other CAD programs
- Advanced and interactive meshing
- Standard and advanced post-processing options
- Using external functions in the material parameters
- Non-local coupling variables (extended multiphysics)
- Setting up custom systems of PDE's(only for those interested)
According to the length of the course and the interests of the participants, some or all of the above will be considered. During the course there will be a series of exercises from where you can choose to focus on the subjects and areas that are in your interest.
Master of Science from Technical University of Denmark. Has been employed as an Application Engineer at COMSOL since 1997.
This course is suitable for anyone interested in using COMSOL Multiphysics for the mathematical modeling of physics phenomena such as heat transfer, transport phenomena, fluid dynamics, electromagnetics, photonics, structural mechanics, and acoustics.
No previous experience with COMSOL Multiphysics is required.

Instructor-led training tuition is fully refundable if we receive written notification (via mail or e-mail) of cancellation on or before seven business days prior to the class. Cancellations made less than seven business days prior to class will be charged 25 percent of the course tuition fee. If you fail to show up to class without written notice, you will be charged the full tuition. You may send a substitute in your place to avoid a fee.
If a training course cannot take place as scheduled due to circumstances beyond COMSOL's control, we will issue a full refund for the amount that you have already paid.
If you bring your own laptop you will get a 2 weeks trial and have the possibility of continuing the exercises at home.
