linux cluster distribute computing no speed up

cluster configuration:1head node+8nodes，32cores each node，64GB ram each node。

comsol：comsol4.0 floating network licence installed on the head node, intel mpi

mpi file: COMSOL40\models\ACDC_Module\Verification_Models\parallel_wires.mph the air domain is increased in order to get more DOF, stationary study, direct solver MUMPS
test process:
Step 1. Solve this problem in 1 node using 16 cores
Step 2. Solve it in 4 nodes using 16 cores each node

test result: the solution time is almost the same (about 100 seconds), no speedup is obtained. It seems that all the nodes do the same thing.

Please check the folowing logs and help me out please, Thanks a lot.
can comsol support multilayer shell?

Dear all,

I am trying to model a membrane using shell element because thickness is quite thin compared to length and width. But the membrane is lamated with three to five different materials and thickness at different location. It seems impossible to use 3D solid model that will lead too many mesh elements. Do anyone know how to do multilayer shell in comsol?

Frequency domain - mechanical

Hi,
I am an electronics student and am trying to simulate the mechanics of a square plate.
My plate has the 4 side faces fixed and a uniform distributed load on one of the larger faces.
The stress and displacement are close to calculated values - hence I can justify that my understanding is verified by the simulation.
I tried to find the eigen frequencies. My query - is the solution given by comsol for eigen frequency = omega (= 2.pi.f) or is it = "f"?
I tried the frequency domain simulation. Here, the frequency that I enter are omega (= 2.pi.f) or is it "f"?

Please recommend me books where, from formulae, I can calculate the resonant frequency and compare with the simulated results. I tried Timoshenko - strength of materials -2, but did not get the frequency.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I have been reading a few threads up to now, but none of the really helped me along with my problem.
As others, I would like to get the drag of an object. I am able to do so with the reacf() operator, which is set on "ON" by default. So I just need to add the right boundary and plot it? How do I do this?
The same issue is dealt with in the tutorial "Flow over a circluar cylinder" right? Maybe the tutorial could help? But I am not able to find this tutorial anywhere.

I'd really appreciate very kind of help on this topic.
Hi,
I am trying to model evacuation of air between two plates which means i shud have the right and left boundaries open to atmosphere. The air is evacuated using a narrow outlet at the centre of the bottom plate.

I noticed something called 'open boundary' in the laminar flow physics. does this help in creating the right and left boundaries open to the atmosphere?
Or does anyone have a suggestion to make the right and left boundaries open to atmosphere?
Please help
undesired rolling during a symmetric deformation

Hi,

I am simulating the effect of pressure change inside a flexible tube (cylinder) that causes it to radially stretch. This is not an axisymmetric problem, but is a 2D problem (look at it from the circular section of that and parallel to the axis of the tube). Due to symmetry, I only have simulated the upper half of the cylinder. On the inner boundary I have a pressure load and the two walls cut sections are considered symmetry. Although the deformation seems to be symmetric, the deformed geometry translates (rolls) to one side; for example, if the center of the cylinder before pressurizing it is at (x,y)=(0,0) after the symmetric pressure load it moves to (x,y)=(0.5,0) rather than staying at (0,0). In addition, when I repeated the solution, I noticed that the amount of rolling differs from the previous run (x,y)=(0.25,0). This means that there is not a unique solution for the problem or probably the problem is not very well-defined. I do not think that if I wanted to simulate a full cylinder I would get this translation, but there is a justified reason that I opted for a half cylinder.

Also, the mesh is pretty fine, although it is not symmetric because it is of an unstructured type. So I do not think them mesh has any effect on it.

I wonder why there is no unique solution, and how can I restrict the undesired translation without fixing any point on the domain.

Your input is appreciated.

Thanks,
relative permeability as a function of mf.Hz and solid.sz

Hi
I am trying to define the relative permeability as a function of mf.Hz and solid.sz ( magnetic and structure application modes) using interpolation function as sectionwise file and calling it for example:
hsmu11=hsmu(mf.Hz[m/A],solid.sz[m^2/N])
However I face an error like this:

Circular variable dependency detected.
- Variable: mod1.hsmu11
- Geometry: 1
- Domain: 3

also i was wondering if i am suppoed to define the sequence of solutions for the two application modes, or it is considered automatically by itself, (for stationary case)

I would be grateful if you help me
Help with solving multiphysics in sequential study steps in COMSOL 4

Hello,

I am modeling a continuous magnetic separator. As it can be seen from the model attached, I have five magnetizable wires that get magnetized by the magnetic field boundary conditions applied to the boundaries of the surrounding domain.
I have applied a "rect" (square wave function) for the magnetic field boundary condition to simulate magnet on-off situation. The transport equation calculates the concentration profiles for particles moving under the influence of convection, diffusion and magnetic force (represented here as voltage).

I solve for magnetic field first as study step 1,

Save the results as solution 2 and

then follow it with solving the transport of dilute species equation and laminar flow simultaneously (since I have expressed viscosity as a function of concentration).

Study step 1 solves very well and I can see that it does get saved as solution 2
but, study step 2 does not solve at, giving errors like "Time 8.268832141965122:
Nonlinear solver did not converge."..which does not make sense because all arguments are within bounds.

If I solve these 3 physics as two studies, I lose out information on square waveform of magnetic field.

Is there a way I can solve these 3 physics?

Are there any examples I can refer to for sequential solving?

Thanks !
Resonance frequency of a piezoelectric cube

Hello,

I am trying to find the resonance frequency of a piezoelectric cube, using the Piezoelectric Devices physics of COMSOL 4.0.

The edge of the cube is 500e-9m long, and its material is Zync Oxide.

I mean to do so by two studies:

1- Frequency Domain study.

I put a voltage of 40mV on a face of the cube, the opposed face being the ground. This potential induces a deformation in the cube.
I do the study from 1e9 to 10e9 Hz with a 10e6Hz step.

I don't really know how to see the resonance... So I guess the best solution must be to plot the displacement of a corner depending on the frequency ( disp=f(freq) )?
I see something looking like a resonance frequency around 3.4GHz, but I see several other maximums at higher frequencies (8.1GHz, 8.3GHz....) , that I can't explain.

Could you tell me if it can be because of some wrong or missing parameters? or else they would be normal..

2- Eigenfrequency

I try to find eigenfrequencies around the 3.4GHz seen before (6 values by def.) , but the software seems to give me random values around this 3.4GHz frequency.
Even stranger, I will get eigenfrequencies for any eigen value I put (like 5 or 6 GHz).

Finally, sometimes I get unexplainable Complex eigenfrequencies... Do you know why?

Thanks for your time,
Regards

RAM allocate Under Win 7 X64 bit Due core

T5450 1.6GHZ Due core CPU, 4G RAM
Win7 64 bit

when I ran COMSOL 4.0a, such as creating a huge mesh, I use -np 2 to use both the CPU.
but the memory control seem not works well, COMSOL shows: wroking set 1.42GB, Virtual memory: 1.88GB
there is still free memory in the system which is not allocated to COMSOL.

this delayed the process dramatically, like only finish 30% over night.

is there any one know how to adjust the memory allocating under win7?
Integration over limited region

Hi,

I want to calculate an integral of a function only on part of a subdomain.
For example
g(x)=integral of f(x') from x'=0 to x'=x

I think an integration coupling variable it is not possible since it always integrates over the hole subdomain.

Thanks for your help,
Space Coordinates Variable

Hi,

I am trying to create a simple model Coupling Momentum transport and Conduction/Convection in 2D axisymetric: a hot air flow in a cylinder.

I want to define heat losses on boundaries : Q(z)=h(T(r=R)-T(r=0))

So my problem is to access in COMSOL to the temperature at r=0 and r=R in each z position (the heat loss varies with the z position).

Thank you for your help.

With regards.

Determine Arrenhius damage integral for a solution

I am trying to apply an Arrenhius damage integral DURING the solution of an electrosurgical problem using the Bioheat Transfer Module along with the Conductive Media DC module (T and V are the dependent variables) . The integral is of the form:

Adi = int(A*exp(-E/(R*T),t)

where Adi is the Arrenhius damage integral, int stands for integral and A, E, and R are constants. T is the nodal tissue temperature and t is time.

Is there a way to apply this into the Global Equations by taking the derivative of Adi? Thus making the equation:

Adit = A*exp(-E/(R*T)

I tried this, but received an error that T could not be solved for. Do I need to do something in order for Global Equations to access my dependent variables?

Thanks for any help...I am also interested in any other way that anybody can think of!
